CHRISTOPHER BROWN

LIGHTING DESIGN

Christopher Brown is a lighting designer based in New York City. He has designed for theater and dance in venues large and small throughout the New York area and beyond, and was a visiting artist and guest instructor at the University of Rochester. His most recent designs include James Scruggs’ (RUS)H and Disposable Men for HERE Arts Center, tba and Six for Second Generation, Dreams of Home for the Monarch Theater Company, Knights and Wasps for Target Margin's Aristophanic Festival, Smoldering Fires at First Stage Children’s Theatre in Milwaukee, Stories Cuentos: How Raven Brought The Light for Mud/Bone, and the 2006/07 and 2007-08 seasons for CAP21, the musical theatre conservatory at New York University.

In 2006, he received the Princess Grace Award to support his work as resident designer for Mud/Bone.

Chris received his B.A. in Visual Arts and Religious Studies from Brown University, and his M.F.A. in Lighting Design from New York University’s Tisch School For the Arts, where he studied under John Gleason, Allen Lee Hughes, Brian MacDevitt, John Conklin, Susan Hilferty, Curt Ostermann, and others, and received the Ettinger Award for Excellence In Design.
